If you backed up the data using the built-in backup feature, you can easily restore it via the menu item “Manage Backups.”
A list of all available cloud backups from all your devices using the same Apple ID will appear.
An explanation of the buttons can be found under the following image:
All these buttons display a message first explaining what they do and ask if you really want to proceed.
So, if you forget what a button does, you can safely press it and read the confirmation message. You can still cancel if it’s not what you want to do.
When you press the restore button (1), this window first appears with additional information about the backup and what happens during restoration.
There you can review the backup contents and decide whether to restore the backup or cancel.
The backup files from SongBook+ have the .sbkbkp (SongBook Backup) extension.
If you click on such a file in the Files app or pass it to SongBook+ from another app with “Open in...”, SongBook+ will start and display the window to restore the backup (see above).
There you can review the backup contents and decide whether to restore the backup or cancel.
(On a Mac, you can restore the backup file by dragging it onto the SongBook+ app icon.)
If you did not back up using the SongBook+ backup feature but manually copied the files, you can also manually copy them back to SongBook+.
Exit SongBook+ before restoring the backup, otherwise copying back the database files will be ineffective (except if you use the Wi-Fi sharing feature)!
The backed-up files are copied back to SongBook+ the same way regular files are copied into SongBook+.
Please refer to the page Inserting Files into SongBook+ for how to copy files into SongBook+ and proceed similarly with your backed-up files.
If one of the two files SongBookMidi.sqlite-shm or SongBookMidi.sqlite-wal was not backed up because it had a size of 0, the missing file must also be deleted on the target iPad beforehand.
The "Inbox" folder can and should not be copied back! It does not contain any required data.
Press the button "...".
Select "Manage Backups."
Restore Backup. This button starts the restoration of the backup.
Permanently Delete Backup. This button deletes the backup from the device and the cloud.
Delete Local Backup. This button deletes the local copy of the backup. It is still available in the cloud and can be downloaded again if needed.
Download Backup from the Cloud. This button downloads a copy of the backup so that it can be restored using button (1).
The buttons for restoring or permanently deleting are only active if the backup has been downloaded (4).
The following pages show how you can back up your data to your computer and how to copy the backed-up data back into your SongBook+ (or onto another device).
ATTENTION!
Regular backups of your data are important!
You will, for example, be glad to have them in the following situations:
Your iPad is broken.
Your iPad was stolen.
An error in the file system damaged the database file of SongBook+.
After an update from SongBook+, the database was adapted to the new software version, but you still need a database for an older version of SongBook+.
A software bug destroyed the database.
You regret changes you've made to your data and want to revert to the state from a few weeks ago.
A complete backup of the iPad also includes SongBook+ and its associated data. In the event of loss or damage to your iPad, you can quickly restore a replacement iPad along with data from such a backup.
For other reasons mentioned above, where a somewhat older version of the data is needed, this is not sufficient! Especially with the standard automatic iCloud backup, it could well be that the desired state of the data has already been replaced by another automatic backup, which may also contain the faulty data.
Press the button "...".
The option "All files" backs up everything and is recommended.
The option "Database only" backs up only the following 4 files:
SongBookMidi.settings
SongBookMidi.sqlite
SongBookMidi.sqlite-shm
SongBookMidi.sqlite-wal
If you are using SongBook+'s multi-tenancy feature (see Multi-tenancy with Subdirectories), you can additionally decide whether to back up only the current tenant or all tenants.
Always close SongBook+ completely before backing up or restoring your files (unless you are using the WLAN sharing feature to do so)!
If you fail to do this, ...
...the database files may not contain the most recent data or may be corrupted when backing up.
...restoring data by copying the database files back will be ineffective
To close SongBook+, press the button “...” and then “Exit SongBook+”.
The most important files that you must back up are the following 4 files:
SongBookMidi.settings
SongBookMidi.sqlite
SongBookMidi.sqlite-shm
SongBookMidi.sqlite-wal
They contain all the data and settings you have entered directly in SongBook (song titles, artists, genres, annotations, recorded page turns and pointers, MIDI commands to be sent,...).
If one of the files SongBookMidi.sqlite-shm or SongBookMidi.sqlite-wal has a size of 0, it does not need to be backed up. When restoring the backup to an iPad, this missing file must then be deleted from the target iPad beforehand.
If you have used SongBook+'s photo-to-PDF function or imported texts from MIDI files, ChordPro files, MP3 files, etc., SongBook+ has also generated PDF files for you. In that case, you should back up all PDF files as well.
Close SongBook+ before backing up the files to ensure all changes are saved in the database files.

With the Files app, you can copy files to a USB stick, your preferred cloud app, or even to a server on the local network.
First, create a new, appropriately named folder with the Files app at the desired destination (in your cloud app or on the USB stick), e.g., SongBook-Backup-1, in which you want to store the backed up files.
In the following example, we show how to back up the entire SongBook folder along with all files. If you only want to back up the 4 files mentioned above, you can perform this process 4 times with the individual files.
The copying process begins, wait until the files are fully copied.
Select "Backup data".
Choose where the backup should be saved. The easiest option is to save it in "iCloud Drive".
Choose which data should be backed up.
Start the backup.
Open the "Files" app.
Select the "Browse" tab.
Select "On My iPad".
Then long-press the SongBook folder until a menu appears
Select "Copy" from this menu.
Then open the previously prepared, still empty destination folder (in your preferred cloud app or on the USB stick).
Long-press on an empty spot in this folder until a menu appears, and select "Paste".
